On October 18, 2017, the Escondido City Council voted 4:1 (Diaz no) to proceed with privatizing operations of the Escondido Public Library. The rationale for the vote to privatize the library was the financial savings it would mean for the City. However, in the same City Council meeting, the Council voted 4:1 (Diaz no) to transfer $145,000 from the City’s General Fund to cover operating losses from the Reidy Creek Municipal Golf Course. Ready Creek has operated at a loss for the last four years requiring annual budget transfers to support it and is expected to have a $102,000 loss in 2018 as well. Information can be found in the Agenda Packet for last night’s meeting here; video of meeting available here.
A week prior, the City Council voted 4:0 (Diaz absent) to approve a contract for $227,656 (with six annual renewal options) to purchase live Rainbow Trout for Dixon Lake and Lake Wolford. Information can be found in the Agenda Packet for the October 11, 2017 meeting here; video of meeting available here.
